Clinical Specialties

We offer a range of services and innovative treatments to address common mental health challenges.  We will work together to create an individualized treatment plan for those who are experiencing multiple, overlapping, or co-occurring conditions.

Our office is co-located with a diverse group of healthcare clinicians to provide multidisciplinary, collaborative care. With your consent, Dr. Greenwell can also reach out to your existing team of medical providers to develop a more integrated treatment plan.  Many individuals have felt disempowered in the medical system, and it’s essential that every client knows their experiences and concerns are both real and valid.

High Intensity Professions, Burnout, & Perfectionism

From the outset, supporting individuals who serve in highly demanding roles has been a core part of Greenwell Psychology’s clinical and consultation practice. We have worked extensively with physicians and other medical professionals, humanitarian aid workers, Expats working abroad, attorneys, military personnel, as well as executives.

We understand the complexity and unique pressures of these high stakes roles as well as the need for specialty interventions that go beyond traditional supportive therapies. Additionally, for those struggling with Perfectionism, Dr. Greenwell is intensively trained in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).

PTSD & Other Trauma Responses

After surviving, witnessing, or learning about a traumatic event, in the days and weeks afterward, most people will report experiencing distressing reactions. Depending on the severity of the event and type of support available, some individuals will continue to have persisting intrusive memories, avoidance, numbing, and hypervigilance symptoms.

Greenwell Psychology offers Critical Incident Response, a preventative intervention that is carefully designed to support recovery and reduce the likelihood of developing PTSD in the immediate aftermath of a trauma. For those that have been living with trauma symptoms for longer periods, research demonstrates that getting the right treatment for PTSD can be life-changing (even decades after the original events).

Based on your recovery goals, we offer several trauma processing treatments, including: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Prolonged Exposure (PE), CBT-Insomnia and Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT).

Cancer, Terminal Illnesses, & Palliative Care

One of the most important responsibilities to ourselves and others involves confronting our own mortality and choosing to be intentional with the precious time that remains. However, factoring in the many intersecting considerations can make these decisions overwhelming (e.g., healthcare barriers, family dynamics, mental health concerns, complex legal, social, financial, and systemic issues). We bring our expertise in mental health, ethics, the healthcare system, and in facilitating sensitive conversations to support your end-of-life journey.

Dr. Greenwell also works with clients who are coping with a range of major health concerns, including cancer, Autoimmune Disorders, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Dysautonomia. Contact us to see if psychological support can complement your existing medical treatment to improve healing. We offer group and individual treatment options.

Caregiver Support, Grief, & Bereavement

The task of caregiving for a loved one can become a complicated, unpredictable mix that is both an honor and a burden at times. Accessing support during and at the conclusion of your caregiving duties can be essential for your own wellbeing and ongoing capacity to show up for others.

We offer individual and group classes for those currently engaged in caregiver support. After a loss, Greenwell Psychology also provides care for the caregiver to reflect on their experience, to process residual grief, as well as to contemplate their future.

Chronic Pain, GI Diseases, & Feeding Disorders

When life stressors and physical ailments coincide, our bodies can develop debilitating pain neurocircuitry that persists long after the original illness or injury. The resulting, REAL suffering and impairment can ignite a vicious cycle that fuels additional inflammation, fear, and more pain. We may begin to feel like we’ve lost control of our lives, and that we’re unable to predict our capacity to complete daily activities or to communicate our evolving needs and limits. Greenwell Psychology offers CBT, Clinical Hypnosis, and ACT for Chronic Pain to regain a sense of vitality and purpose.

Additionally, Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBIs) and Feeding Disorders (e.g., ARFID) are becoming increasingly common among adults and children. Though not always obvious to others, conditions like GERD, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), etc., can require frequent medical interventions, major dietary changes, and can dramatically affect quality of life. Greenwell Psychology offers several empirically validated treatments like CBT, ACT, and Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy, which have been empirically shown to help patients to manage stress, develop new habits, and reduce reliance on medications.
