MORE ABOUT THE TALK:
Our lives inherently include risk and uncertainty. We may try to buffer against it by bringing our most determined selves to plan, organize, and control our environments. Modern society further reinforces workism, precision, and moral striving, and these pressures can trap us into living smaller, threat-sensitive lives. All the while, baby sea turtles keep venturing towards the ocean (with low odds of reaching adulthood) and electric fish are sharing images with each other to collectively survive by “seeing” the big picture.
We know there’s a bigger world beyond personal opinions and daily demands, but letting go of control and opening up to new ways of being is hard. Using RO DBT principles, the science of sensory ecology and awe-inspiring examples from the animal kingdom, this talk explores how we can invite more play, reduce over-functioning and broaden perspectives on our realities.
